The Studio Sails to Noah’s Ark

Spring is here!

The weather has warmed up and like everyone else, Pos+Abilities clients want to get out and enjoy the sunshine. To that end, they have spent a great deal of time outside this month. They spent part of Earth Day outside picking up trash. They also prepared the gardens for planting. One day they went to Pew Island to pick up driftwood to support an upcoming Pos+Abilities/Studio project.

Pos+Abilities also continued their volunteer projects. They spent their last Wednesday at GRACE this month until next school year. They also volunteered at Meals on Wheels weekly.

Those rainy days, which have been many, they spent some time indoors making fudge, pudding, and even their own lunch!

Did you know that Pos+Abilities also contributes to Lion’s Club by collecting gently used glasses. So, if you have an old pair of glasses you don’t know what to do with bring them to Pos+Abilities.

May Spotlights

The Studio has been creating some amazing things and enjoying some spring days too. They made some May Day flowers they shared with staff on May 1. They have been working on a plethora of projects including Mother’s Day cards, several yarn activities, personal projects, puzzles and so much more. One of their favorite things to do is pottery at The Cracked Pot Studio. Their current pottery project is ornaments for Marie’s Christmas candy box gifts.

When they weren’t creating, they enjoyed some time outside. They planted some seeds in March that are ready to plant, did some kite flying, and they spent some time at Southview Park enjoying a warm spring day. Dennis Ross even shot some hoops!

RISE celebrated the end of the school year at the Indian Lake Rollarena this month. They enjoyed some air hockey, roller skating, and pool while eating Jac N Do’s Pizza. It was a great way to end the school year, and kick-off the summer season. The night was full of laughter, fun and trying new things for many!

The Orange and Blue Room celebrated an early Memorial Day with a cookout and ceremony on a gorgeous sunny afternoon. They ate hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw and brownies and played some table Jenga. After that they went to the flagpole to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom and enjoyed some music with Candie Hitt’s son, Garrett Prater. It was a fun and poignant afternoon.

RTC Production continues to support the goals of their associates by teaching them the skills necessary to be successful in a community job. 31 associates are getting the job training they need on the production floor. We have many strong partnerships with local businesses to provide real work opportunities for individuals who have disabilities.
